Although you are not required to have a plan to sell your timber, having one in place will help you be a better steward of your land.

Knowing your woodlands and having a plan can also help you set clear goals and objectives and help you understand how you and your forester can use harvesting as a tool for reaching those objectives. Yours might include some of the following goals:

  • Improving the overall health and well-being of your trees
  • Decreasing overcrowding in the woodland
  • Salvaging damaged trees
  • Creating a habitat for wildlife
  • Restoring a neglected or degraded area of forest
  • Designing and developing places for recreational activities
  • Creating trails and vistas
